Bringing together nine contemporary artists from across Europe and the Middle East, the exhibition celebrates the enduring practice of cameraless photography. Through photograms, cyanotypes, prints, direct impressions, and experimental light-based processes, the artists reveal photography as a medium shaped by light, chemistry, time, and material transformation.

Announcing a new publication by Studies in Photography. At the heart of the publication is Hill & Adamson’s celebrated series depicting the fishing communities of the Firth of Forth, particularly the village of Newhaven.

Widely regarded as the earliest sustained example of social documentary photography, these images capture both the fishermen and the fisherwomen whose labour, resilience, and economic contribution sustained the community.

By placing these photographs within their historical and social context, Stevenson’s study restores balance to the narrative and invites a renewed understanding of photography’s earliest achievements.

Ambit - a sphere of action: expression, or influence: scope… is an exhibition which touches on some of the artist’s interconnected projects, from site works to portraits that engage with our environment as it historically defines us. The mainly recent works in the exhibition investigate post industrial and pastoral land and seascapes to the north and south of the UK and are joined by earlier works which both suggest and question allegory as a means of creating Art - and classical ideas of Arcadia.
