Studies in Photography Winter 2024
We are delighted to announce another packed issue. Highlights from this issue include an extraordinary set of images by Nan Goldin. The Gagosian kindly supported our use of images from the film and also revised a text by Michael Cary.
Our lead article is 'Changing Ideals in Pictorial Photography; Pictorialism and the Royal Photographic Society' by Dr Michael Pritchard.
The featured artist in the Winter Studies is selected from 2024's DalkeithPhoto: Fractured Whispers - A Journey Through Scottish Celtic Rainforests by Ian Phillips-McLaren, which is a masterclass on how artists are turning to a slow way of working.
Our cover features the work of Joseph McKenzie. His son, Frank, who manages his late father's estate, is interviewed by Alexander Hamilton.
In our reviews we are delighted to welcome our youngest contributor - Jason Perez, who covers the Victoria and Albert Museum's Fragile Beauty: Photographs from the Sir Elton John and David Furnish Collection.
In addition to all this we have our regular 'New Contemporaries' section featuring vibrant work by three new artists, chosen by Kat Gollock.
Finally, the Curators Choice of this issue was written by Zelda Cheatle.
